With football on t.v., a warm fire going, and hot chocolate in hand, fall is underway! There are so many things I love about this season. Pumpkin carving, apple cider donuts, and not to mention Thanksgiving are some favorites, but I have to say the best thing about fall in Charlottesville are the colors. The beautiful autumn colors make for a great time for portrait sessions and we know lots of couples are going to take advantage of the beautiful scenery coming up. To help with getting the most out of your engagement pictures, we have created a style guide with 8 helpful tips on how to look your best for your photo shoot!

1. Go with a theme! Anything that represents your lifestyle – such as casual, classic, or formal.

2. Adding a pop of color to your outfit can really make a photo. A bright shirt, red shoes, or a fun piece of jewelry are great ways to add color.

3. Be creative with your outfits. Accessorizing with things like headbands, hats, jewelry, jackets, and boots can create a very stylized look.

4. Try to coordinate outfits without looking overly “matchy”. Avoid wearing the exact same colors and instead, find a color palette you love and piece together items from that palette that are complimentary to one another. 6. Don’t be afraid to use props. Incorporating things such as signs is an easy way to make your pictures stand out. These can also make great pictures for save-the-dates and thank you cards!

7. Engagement sessions are meant to be fun! Stay away from restrictive clothing and wear something you can move around in.

8. If you can’t decide which outfit to wear, don’t choose just one! Changing outfits or part of an outfit halfway through the session is a great way to create variety in the pictures and show off a couple different looks.
